FFXIV is much more powerful than ffxi

There has to be a lot of devoted to continue to pay for a sub that won't be putting out new content. But there is just so much content already. Played for 9 years, and still a bunch of stuff I would have to finish.  This is pretty awesome. It's too bad that the servers are shutting down in November. They aren't shutting down. They are just ceasing development.  Actually, they are shutting down service for Xbox and PS2 in March 2016 and continuing indefinitely for PC. In November the lost big story piece will be released. SE never announced they would be ending FFXI on PC. You are jumping the gun here Oskar. The game will continue, and we will still get some updates here

Just no new content after November - they will continue to maintain for an indeterminate amount of time. Are they still planning to charge for a sub or is it converting over to f2p

? I honestly think that they should just charge a one time fee and players can play unlimited until they finally pull the plug. Now come on, the end story piece is going to be... You get to put the foot on the beetle the right way round.

They'll keep charging for it- this is more like a wind-down until the servers hit a point where nobody's playing, vs. "OMG NOVEMBER IS HERE IT'S ALL OVER!". They want you to eventually swap over to FFXIV, as FFXI development becomes impossible when the last PS2 devkits (yes, all content is built on those for FFXI, even now) fall apart from lack of new parts or replacements. The game will literally die from PS2 limitations. How ironic it is.
